The CHIT CHAT project was the brainchild of East Durham Health Network and sees local volunteers, being recruited and trained to provide a valuable service which will undoubtedly contribute to the mental health and well being of local people through the provision of regular support and social interaction. As well as receiving training in mental health first aid the volunteers are made aware of a range of potential services which may be of benefit to the supported individuals.
The service is aimed primarily at vulnerable and isolated individuals who are referred into the service. As well as the immediate practical benefits to the recipients the main outcome of the project will be improvements in mental wellbeing as a result of the social interaction.
East Durham Trust is promoting the service through the Health Network and referral forms will be distributed via this route. In addition the service is being promoted within the East Durham GP Forum, Health Visitors Forum and other frontline support worker teams in the area.
If you would like to refer an individual to receive a regular call from the CHIT CHAT service please complete the referral form and return to East Durham Trust. You can also download the promotional leaflet.
