|FEED - A Big Thank You|
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated to our FEED project in the run up to Christmas. A special mention to Peterlee and District Lions, Seaham One Point, Shotton Hall Academy, Acre Rigg Primary School, Shotton Hall Academy students, Durham University Student Community Action, Accent Home and Asda’s generous shoppers. Over the festive period we have distributed over 80 food parcels and we expect the demand for parcels to go up rapidly in the coming months.
Also a special thank you to those who made cash dnations - always vital when we are purchasing perishable such as bread and milk. Whether it was a donation in line of Christmas Cards, passing on the benefit of Winter Fuel Allowence or simply thinking of thoses less well off than yourself, thank you to all!
The Christmas Period undoubtedly seems to bring additional pressure on this service. One of the reasons is that people may overspend at this time of year and whilst it is often easy to judge this behaviour we should take time out to recognise the pressures of our consumerist society and be aware that whilst for some of us the impact of spending a little too much can be absorbed and withstood, for the most vulnerable who effectively live on the breadline, the impact can be catastrophic. In other cases sudden benefit sanctions, episodes of domestic violence, unexpected bills, homelessness and other circumstances are a common occurrence in East Durham all year round and these issues do not let up over the Christmas Period. Because of the kind support from everyone who has donated we have managed to continue to support individuals and families throughout the festive period, however we still need your help and support as January is for some, an even tougher time. Below is a list of places that will be happy to accept your donations on our behalf:
East Durham Homes, Meridian court, Whitehouse industrial estate
