East Durham Trust have helped set up two groups for mothers aimed at reducing social isolation. The Trust have had recent success with establishing local group ‘Murton Mams’, originally funded by Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS and RSA. Murton Mams now, as a Constituted Group in their own right, continue to meet on a weekly basis.
County Durham Community Foundation have funded groups at Wingate Family Centre andDawdon Youth and Community Centre, who follow a similar model in providing an informal venue and friendly face to have some much needed ‘me time’.
This model of Social Inclusion aims to improve the emotional wellbeing of mothers within our local community. Two members of each group will be trained in Mental Health First Aid and are available as a resource to other support services in the East Durham area.
For anyone wishing to join a group, further information is available by contacting East Durham Trust on 0191 5693511 or alternatively contacting the individual group.
